About Us

Our academy is located in the Atlanta, GA suburb of Suwanee, in Gwinnett County.

We teach the art of Kajukenbo.   Conceived and created in 1940’s Hawaii, the martial art of Kajukenbo – an acronym, referencing essential elements of Karate (KA), Danzan Ryu Jujitsu (JU), Hawaiian Kenpo (KEN) and boxing (BO) – is a highly adaptive and formidable fusion of these arts.  It’s primary purpose is and has always been real and practical self protection, while secondarily offering a natural byproduct of sport combatives and fitness.  Kajukenbo is a traditional and true mixed martial art.

Our Chief Instructor

Ron Baker (center) is a 5th degree black belt in Kajukenbo and a Mixed Martial Arts Conditioning Specialist, certified by the National Association of Sports Medicine.  He began his martial arts training in 1972 at the age of 8, learning the basics of Hawaiian Kenpo in California's San Francisco Bay Area--probably the most influential area for martial arts in the United States.  In 1978 , he began training in the art of Kajukenbo and studied under Tony Ramos -- one of the art's true pioneers and a regular training partner with the legendary Bruce Lee.  Ron is ranked under Grandmaster Jason Groff and the Ordonez Kajukenbo Ohana, through Kajukenbo's co-founder "Uncle" Frank Ordonez.

During his formative years of training in Kajukenbo, Ron would become a champion fighter in the Bay Area sport martial art tournament circuit, winning back-to-back California Karate Championships as well as championships in numerous other tournament venues.
In the early 1990's, Ron left the Bay Area and made a new home in Colorado.  There he trained and competed in American Freestyle Karate under Sensei Troy "Quickdraw" McCaskell. While living in the Denver area--just for fun--Ron appeared briefly in the martial arts movie My Samurai, starring Julian Lee, Terry O'Quinn, and Mako.

In 2006, he and his family relocated to Georgia and in 2009, Ron opened Total Martial Arts Academy.
